Benazir Ahmed is the new Inspector General of Police (IGP). Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun is joining as the Director General of RAB. They will take over from April 15.

Benazir Ahmed is currently working as the Director General of RAB. Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun is the Additional Superintendent of Police in the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
The order will come into effect from April 15, 2020. He is the present Inspector General of Bangladesh Police will replace Mohammad Jabed Patwari (BPM). After passing the Seventh BCS Examination, he joined the BCS Police Cadre directly on 15 February, 1998.
Benazir Ahmed is a skilled, professional, modern and scientific police officer, has served as Director General of RAB, Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, DIG (Administration and Operations) and DIG (Finance and Budget) in his distinguished career. He also served as the Superintendent of Police in Kishoreganj district.
He served as Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police for a period of 2010-2015. He emphasized on increasing the number of police stations, manpower and senior police officers in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to make the service of the people easier and more dynamic. As a result, around the beginning of his tenure, he created the posts of 8 police stations, including 4 additional police commissioners, five joint commissioners, 7 DCs, and some post of policemen in the DMP.
As DMP Commissioner, he dealt with the anti-custody movement on May 5,2013 with utmost courage, intelligence and skill and saved the city of Dhaka and the country from a catastrophic disaster. Also, the political firearms and bomb terrorism of the 2013,2014 and 2015 were suppressed with great courage, skill and professionalism.He was attacked by highly skilled, courageous and prudent leadership by targeting a number of political fierce firearms, bomb terrorism and police in different places of Dhaka metropolitan area, especially from September 27,2014 to December.
He has also played an important role in the UN peacekeeping mission. Dr. Benazir Ahmed was the first in the subcontinent to serve as head of the mission management and support section under the Department of Peacekeeping Operations at the UN headquarters in New York. He also served as the Contingent Commander of Bangladesh Police in the Kosovo Mission.
Benazir Ahmed received a Masters Degree in English Literature from Dhaka University. He received his LLB and MBA degrees. He received his Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree from the Faculty of Business at the University of Dhaka because of his passion for education. He received the Rector’s Medal for his professional training at the Basic Training of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Academy.
He has also been awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) a maximum of six times for his courage and heroic contribution at various times in his career. This visionary and knowledgeable officer has three times been the President of the Bangladesh Police Service Association.
He was born in 1963 in a prosperous Muslim family in Tungipara in Gopalganj district. He is married and is the father of three daughters.
